So the day before Thanksgiving, my friend J hosted a Friendsgiving. I guess I’ve had my head in the sand, but I had never heard of this. She did such an amazing job between the turkey and various types of stuffing and sides…oh and the pies! Yeah…Anyway I brought one of the side dishes– candied sweet potatoes. It’s from a Gourmet recipe in 1999 I found on epicurious.com and it was so easy and delicious. It’s not too sweet– it’s the perfect mix of brown sugar and bourbon. Last year I made this for my first Thanksgiving with my husband. That time I made it with Jack Daniels, and even though it was very good, I made it with Maker’s Mark this time and it gave the potatoes a deeper and kind of nutty flavor. This is definitely in my arsenal for any future holiday potlucks.
